Uncovering the Stairways of Fontainhas

Fontainhas, the old Latin Quarter in Panjim lies at the foot of a hill neighbourhood called Altinho. What began as barren shortcuts have transformed into public stairways over the years. They were originally built to provide shorter routes to the top or give access to the houses along the slope of Altinho. Residents of the neighbourhood have grown up with this public space as a part of their lives.

JumpCut Goa spent a day wandering through Fontainhas and listening to stories and trying to count all the steps.
